After seeing the King of Thorn PV (here) I ran and got myself the mango. Now that I’m done… I’m much less excited for the movie. I’d say this post is spoiler free (certainly not wikipedia kind of spoilage, I even avoided all names :P).

The good: The manga is very addictive. The tension is always there. It has beautiful visuals, a lot of exciting action and awesome monsters. The human characters aren’t annoying either which is always a plus. Bonuses: 1shota and 8pack.

The hohum: the plot is a little, for lack of a better word, DEEP - a little 2DEEP considering I was just expecting a simple survival story. But no matter, I suppose it depends on what you expect, and it could be far worse. I still really enjoyed it.

The reason I’m less excited for the movie is that it looks like it’s going to just take PARTS of the plot and alter everything else (except the awakening sequence) to rush through some of the story’s main points. This is a shame since the manga has quite a few delicious setups - both for character development and action (no water for my senator? :(). It also looks like they might be ignoring parts of the main plot (no single shot of HIM in the trailer) - which wouldn’t be a bad thing if done right, especially if this is just a single 90minute movie.

I really think this story would be the most suitable for a 6x~40min OVA format (with each episode covering about a volume of the manga).

Another thing that’s REALLY irking me is the shotas design. Considering they kept all the other character designs very true to the originals, I have no idea why they changed his hair from blonde(/yellow/whichever you want lol) to this shitty color… it really irks me - he’s no longer the adorable kid from the manga to me.

Anyways, still curious about the movie. Especially since I can’t say no to that 8pack running around the whole time. ^^
