Random thoughts: Twelve Sisters Story? Pani Poni R1 3 DVDs?

Quote from animenewsservice:

9-27-06 (8:14PM EDT)—- Coyote Ragtime Show Sequel Coming?
Information published in the November issue of Comic Rush hints at a possible sequel to the Coyote Ragtime anime TV series. The name of the project is “Twelve Sisters Story”, centering on Madame Marciano’s Twelve Sisters from the original. The format could be an OVA but at this point there seems to be some question on whether to produce the project. Something that may push the development is a coming American fan / consumer base garnered through ADV Films’ license announcement at AWA this past weekend.

Does anyone really want a sequel of any sorts to this? I sure as hell don’t. If they could make a brand new story with Angelica as the main character and as little of kind Mister as possible then yes, please, I’d give it a try. But 12 Sisters, Marciano or Mister as main charas again? Psh. Thank you very much.

AnimeonDVD also reports release dates for first volumes of new ADV shows: Nerima Daikon Brothers (12/05/2006) and Pani Poni Dash! (12/05/2006). I think it’s an error (copy and paste job as usual with AnimeonDVD), but they state PPD! is only 3 volumes long. WTF? ;)

CD: Windy Tales OST Image Album

I don’t really have much to say. It has my favorite instruments, it has light tracks, it has around 5 more serious tracks and one of my favorite composers… It’s a very relaxing, Kenji Kawai, CD and a very refreshing one compared to the ones I keep playing. AFAIC the opening theme could be some Ghibli movie theme. And… I guess that’s it.

Favorite tracks after first listen:

「風の始まり」, 「悪戯なつむじ風」, 「風に抱かれて」, 「風神の息吹」.

CD: BLACK CAT DVD10+OST3

Taku Iwasaki strikes again! I thought this would be a collection of throwaway tracks - after all it’s the third (and probably last) OST - but it turns out to be another great entry in the 「Black Cat」 OST family. I’d say it’s better than 「Nekomanma」 but that might be just because it’s new to me so… I won’t say that. :P

「TI UCCIDO MA NON MI SODDISFO」 is an energetic opera track - a great one if you ask me but it depends if you’re into this kind of stuff, the superb 「サイエント・サイレンス」 reminded me of Night Head Genesis website music (now when is that thing getting its OST?) and the list of good action/dramatic tracks could go on. Much like the previous discs this one also has few relaxing pieces like 「待合わせは7時」 and 2 new versions of 「この世の歌」 AKA “fuwa fuwa”. xD Anyways, as I said, another solid entry in Taku Iwasaki’s discography.

Favorite tracks after first listen:

「TI UCCIDO MA NON MI SODDISFO」, 「

Pre-release comments:

I assume this is a second mini-OST from descriptions I found for BLACK CAT Vol.10 Premium Edition (the first one, 「Nekomanma」, came with Vol.6). Taku Iwasaki is awesome, so more music is fine with me. Japanese people like their limited editions. :)

2006.09.25 edit: the title is 「Nekojarashi」.

「TI UCCIDO MA NON MI SODDISFO」

music: Taku Iwasaki

Un profumo rimanente della belladonna.
E crallato un uomo sperbo.

Soffocandoti con le mie mani belli,
mi tolgo soddisfazione di vederti morire.
Voglio vedere i tuoi bulbi dell’occhi

Non c’e in me nessuna paura.

CD: Garkun - Yoshinaga-san’chi no Tamatebako

Finally! This is a second music disc for Garkun, the previous one 「Goshikicho Ongaku Matsuri」 featured both BGMs from the show and drama+cast-interview tracks. This one is all about the music and Ko Otani can deliver when he tries, dunno what happened on 「Shana」. 「Yoshinaga-san’chi no Gargoyle」 is a much more serious show than one would expect after seeing some of the artwork for it and I honestly don’t understand why it got ignored by almost everyone - from fansubbers, through the blog community (yay for matthew) to music rippers (don’t think the OP/ED single appeared on TT, not to mention the character singles even). Ah well, I’m only sad about the lack of fansubs, actually…

I was sad that the track I wanted from episode #1 was excluded from the first disc, but it’s already the second one on this CD so HURRAAAYY!!!! Maybe that’s not appropriate considering it’s such a sad track, but uh… The disc opens with more serious tracks and then continues with happy/action bgms for the rest of the disc. I am a fan of the first part of course, but the cheerful tracks are not bad at all. xD

The disc also has enhanced content - with icons, wallpapers and manga strips.

Random thoughts: Higurashi season 2?

So this season is pretty much done and the question is… will there be more? Why wouldn’t there be more? They do seem to have enough material for another full series and I suppose this season was successful… wasn’t it?

As everyone knows there are 2 more ‘answer’ arcs in the original PC run of the game (Minagoroshi-hen, Matsuribayashi-hen), but there are also another 3 NEW arcs in 「Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri」, the PS2 port of the game getting released in December. One of those new arcs, according to wikipedia, is going to be the real ending. The following bit is from the wiki (spoiler free).

(…) And according to the original author, Miotsukushi-hen will be the “True End” of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (…)

With 5 arcs they could easily spend another 26 episodes on the show. Do you think they will let the series die with only one season? I hope they don’t let it die… I really don’t know what to believe after the 4th episode of Tsumihoroboshi-hen…

CD: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Kakera Musubi-

So I still don’t know why this was released under a Higurashi banner (image album?) but I’m glad that’s how it is. If it was just ~Kakera Musubi~ I probably wouldn’t even know about it and I would skip a track with Haruka Shimotsuki (vocalist of kukui). That wouldn’t be good.

So what exactly is this CD? A collection of songs and instrumental tracks produced by Voltage of Imagination camp who were responsible for the ending theme to 「Higurashi no Naku Koro ni」.

Is the CD any good? Why yest it is! I’m really enjoying the two darker tracks, 「hymn」 and 「蝕み」 and I would love to hear them used in the actual show. There are also some rather good happy tracks - 「my home」, which is the Haruka track I mentioned, and 「samsara」. I’m not enjoying every single track though. Those tracks would be 「M・A・T・S・U・R・I - Meet Your Match!」 and 「when they cry」, I just don’t like them. I’d like to say a bit more about 「you - Visionen im Spiegel」 which is a new version of 「you」 from the Higurashi game 「Thanks/You」 CD and I think it is in fact a very good song but this version really needed better mastering - it’s one loud sound, you can’t tell different instruments or vocals from eachother, it’s a loud mess IMHO.

The disc also comes with a Rika-chan card, which I thought would be part of the second OST package…

Favorite tracks after first listen:

「hymn」, 「蝕み」, 「my home」.

Pre-release comments:

Don’t really know what this is, but after listening to few samples I decided it’s worth giving a try. I want to hear the full hymn and samsara.

Genshiken OVA!

It’s official - we’re getting an OVA! The official 「Kujibiki Unbalance」 and 「Genshiken」 websites have announced the full specs of the first DVD-BOX for 「Kujibiki Unbalance」 and it seems the releases are going to look the same as in the first 「Genshiken」 series case - 6 regular editions (2 episodes each) and 3 DVD-BOXes (2 regular ed. + bonus discs with one episode of the OVA each). Also, the official 「Genshiken」 site finally got opened, so go and check it out.

So… yep, only an OVA. I’m not too happy it’s only that at this stage, but at least we are getting more of 「Genshiken」 and the gang! The length of the actual episodes isn’t known either so it could be longer than the regular 24 minutes - CDJapan/neowing actually has 150 minutes listed for the whole first BOX. Now if it’s only for the actual episodes (no bonus features) it would leave about 50 minutes for Genshiken - wouldn’t that be totally sweet? We just have to wait and see. :)

Here’s the release schedule for Kujian’s discs:

06.12.22 くじびきアンバランス DVD-BOX I / げんしけんOVA第1巻つき
07.02.23 くじびきアンバランス DVD-BOX II / げんしけんOVA第2巻つき
07.04.25 くじびきアンバランス DVD-BOX III / げんしけんOVA第3巻つき

FictionJunction YUUKA “aikoi” lyrics

Felt like typing them out. :) Everything except one part which was not in the booklet was typed out by me. Thanks for those 2 lines that weren’t there go to google and whoever originally typed it out from the raw 「Tsubasa Chronicle」 episode. If you want a transliterated version you can paste those lyrics here. There’s more after the jump~

CD: xxxHOLiC DVD3+OST

Not that great, really. I was rather excited about this OST knowing it was a S.E.N.S. Project work. I only knew S.E.N.S. from 「Kurau」 though, so I guess I put my hopes way too high. There is nothing here to catch your attention and I can see why this is only a Limited Edition DVD bonus item. What we get is a small collection of poor and decent tracks which lack energy, character or mystery (something which I believe should be in 「xxxHOLiC」). Maybe the next OST seems better to me? I mean, I’m pretty sure the show has more than just 35 minutes of music so there has to be another bonus disc coming with later DVDs…

Favorite tracks after first listen:

「April Fool」, 「Deja View」, 「Space & Time ~to be continued」.

CD: .hack//Roots OST2

60 minutes of ALI PROJECT behind me. I love strings driven music and this OST does deliver strings - probably even more than OST1 - happy me. This is a very good follow up to the first OST and also a slightly different one - I think, in general, a much more calm CD and less, I don’t know, rural? While 「KING KNIGHT」 is IMHO not as good of an opener as 「GOD DIVA」 on OST1, it does the job just fine and the next 3 tracks make up for the less than strong opening. The other 2 full songs 「埋葬の森の黄昏坂」 & 「汚れなき悪意」 are solid efforts.

I know I said some bad things about ALI PROJECT in the past, but that came mainly from their anime OP/ED songs, which I still think are all the same. Since then I have discovered more of their solo work and what left me quite impressed was that several of their albums were really good strings-only (and vocals ;)) albums. I’m certainly waiting for more of their stuff.

Favorite tracks after first listen:
「illness and ruins」, 「ash wednesday」, 「new species」, 「汚れなき悪意」.

About the theme...

  • Well, this is a tricky one! The code is based on fUnique by Fredrik, while the colors are based on Freedom Blue by Frank Helmschrott which is also based on fUnique. I couldn't convert Freedom Blue to a blogsome theme properly (worked in some browsers, while it didn't in others), so I recreated it from the source (and it seems to work in all browsers I tried).
